Listening to Spatial Content with Syng Studio

Syng Studio is an app that allows you to play spatial content from your Mac and other audio sources to your Cells. Some examples of spatial content include:

  • Listen to spatial audio tracks in on the Apple Music app (requires an Apple Music subscription).

  • Watch movies or TV shows with spatial audio on the Apple TV app.

  • Listen to spatial mixes from any DAW or audio plug-in including Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, and Dolby Atmos Renderer.

Listen to spatial audio tracks in on Apple Music

  1. In the Syng Studio app, ensure the output format is set to either 7.1.4 or 9.1.4.

  2. Then, in the Music app on your Mac, choose Music > Settings. Click Playback, then choose one of the options from the Dolby Atmos pop-up menu. Many albums and songs on Apple Music support spatial playback. Supported tracks will have the Dolby icon next to them. For some playlists to get you started, follow this link.

  3. To add overhead sound, make sure any overhead Cells (e.g. on the ceiling) are configured to play height content. For instructions on configuring your Cells, follow the steps the Syng Studio setup guide.

Watch movies or TV shows with spatial audio on Apple TV

  1. In the Syng Studio app, ensure the number output channels is set to 12 (7.1.4 System) or 14 (9.1.4 System).

  2. Then, in the Apple TV app on your Mac, find a movie or TV show that supports spatial audio. Supported movies and shows will have the Dolby icon listed next to its genre, release date, and rating.
